LDA Engineering welcomes Michael Tanner as our newest Geomatics CAD Designer. Some of Michael’s responsibilities include processing survey data to build design models that are used to develop construction plans for a variety of civil infrastructure projects. Recent projects have included piping for the Nashville Wastewater Treatment Facility, site plans and mechanical piping for Kingsport’s Oak Glenn pump station, and roadway improvements on Oakland Avenue in Johnson City. Michael values being on a team where everyone works well together and adds, “Everybody likes sharing knowledge for the betterment of the team.”
Michael, his wife, and 13-year old son moved from Long Beach, Mississippi to Knoxville in July. While he misses his extended family very much, he is pleased to be living in East Tennessee after vacationing here for many years. He loves the outdoors and enjoys activities such as whitewater rafting, fishing, and hiking; he and his family try to hike every weekend, usually in the Smokies. For his son’s recent birthday, they went horseback riding in beautiful Cades Cove.
Michael joined LDA with 15 years of combined experience in land surveying and civil design. He started his career with a land surveying company doing data collection. While there, he learned CAD from a co-worker in the drafting department and began drafting land surveys. Michael really liked the civil design work, which led him to his next job at a civil engineering firm. These work experiences gave him the knowledge and skill that he now applies to his work at LDA.
LDA Geomatics Manager Jim Albert says, “Michael has hit the ground running. He has excellent attention to detail and a skillset that increases the depth of the Geomatics team. His seamless integration into LDA makes it feel like he has been working with us for years.”
